Community Jam

What is a Jam?

Jams, also known as dance battles, are opportunities for dancers to showcase their freestyle abilities. To encourage youth participation, the BDCP Community Jam will consist of a 2 vs. 2 battle with competing pairs consisting of one dancer that is over 18 years of age and one dancer that is under 18 year of age. We believe that our youth can build not only a love for freestyle dance, but also establish a mentor-mentee relationship within the dance community.

Not a dancer? Come hang out with us! This is a free community event and we will have food, music, and crowd participation. Invite your friends and family to come and watch these amazing dancers!

How does the BDCP Community Jam work?

  • The Community Jam will consist of a preliminary round to determine the top 16 teams of all applicants. The selected 16 teams will then go through a bracket tournament to determine the winner.
  • A DJ will play music for the entire duration of the Community Jam.
  • Participants in the Community Jam do not pre-select their music. It is required for participants to freestyle to randomly selected music provided by the DJ for them during their round.
  • For each round of the Jam, participants will have one chance to showcase their moves. At the end of each round, a panel of judges will determine which participants will move on to the next round.
  • Judges are select by BDCP.
  • Audience presence and participation is a must!
  • Winners of the Community Jam will win a cash prize and Baltimore Dance Crews Project apparel.
  • Although Jams are a form of competition, the purpose of this Jam is to share with others your personal connection to music and movement. We want all participants leaving the jam feeling like they are part of a supportive and loving dance family in Baltimore.

How do I compete in the Jam?

A spot to compete in the Jam is a first come first serve basis. The earlier you register as a participant, the better chance you will be guaranteed a spot in the Jam!

We are not currently taking registration for next year's Jam.
